BAE Systems - AUSA 2008 - Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Mortar

Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Mortar

The Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) Mortar is a turreted, 120-mm mortar vehicle that is a critical part of the Future Combat Systems (FCS) Manned Ground Vehicle (MGV) Program. It will provide the most accurate and responsive medium-range fire support critical to the infantry Soldier in the close fight.

The NLOS Mortar is being designed by BAE Systems as an automated, single-tube, 360° traversing smoothbore turreted mortar with a three-person crew.

The breech-loaded NLOS Mortar will allow the crew to remain under armor protection during fire missions, provide 24/7 fire support in all-weather conditions with a range of eight kilometers, maximum rate of fire of 16 rounds per minute, and a sustained rate of eight rounds per minute.

The NLOS Mortar will be capable of firing a six-round Multiple-Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) mission.

A NLOS Mortar Firing Platform has successfully fired more than 1,100 rounds and continues to undergo testing. BAE Systems will deliver the first NLOS Mortar prototype vehicle by 2012. Learn more at www.baesystemspresskit.com/nlosmortar.
