E-2D Advanced Hawkeye IFF
BAE Systems is developing a next-generation IFF system for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft, the AN/APX-122. The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye will provide the operational community with a quantum leap in U.S. Navy airborne early warning and theater air missile defense capabilities.
The IFF system on this aircraft will consist of two elements: the IFF enclosure and the beam former. The IFF enclosure performs the interrogation and signal processing, and the beam former provides antenna steering capability for the new E-SCAN antenna. The E-2D interrogator system incorporates state-of-the-art technology and is implemented using VME open system architecture to ensure flexibility and growth. Extensive use of Power PC and FPGA technology allows configuration of system interfaces to a variety of platform applications.
BAE Systems currently is in the system design and development phase of this program, which includes the manufacture, test and delivery of seven complete Mark XII IFF systems (SIF/Mode 4 capable). Two flyable aircraft and one spare system will be delivered to the U.S. Navy. The balance of the units will be used for laboratory development and qualification testing.
BAE Systems has been providing IFF systems to the U.S. Navy for more than 30 years, with more than 200 systems delivered. |
