Flexible Access Secure Transfer
BAE Systems, in conjunction with the U.S. Air Force, is developing a new airborne networking waveform called Flexible Access Secure Transfer (FAST). FAST provides network-centric operation for information and rapid decision-making in airborne tactical edge airborne environments. This new waveform allows legacy Link 16 data to be transformed, enabling information to be shared with other Web-based systems.
BAE System's FAST waveform provides low-latency messaging, MANET (mobile ad hoc networking) and IP (Internet Protocol) connectivity. The addition of FAST to MIDS terminals provides global information grid-enabling connectivity, along with low-latency messaging to perform future missions that require a free flow of data without pre-mission planning.
Link 16 has been used for years as the standard command and control network with coalition interoperability. FAST builds on the existing Link 16 infrastructure and brings IP connectivity with minimal additional cost. |
