P-8A Poseidon Mission Computing System

BAE Systems is developing the next generation Mission Computer System Suite for the Navy's P-8A aircraft, a replacement for the P-3 aircraft. The system is a leading-edge, flexible and ruggedized processing platform that can be readily configured to meet the general purpose, I/O, video, voice, and graphics processing needs for modern military battle management requirements.

Featuring multi-layer security, the product is built upon a well-defined Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) open systems architecture (OSA) with Linux and Windows Operating Systems allowing interface with legacy systems together with rapid insertion of emerging technologies. This open architecture leverages commercial off-the-shelf technology, non-developmental item products, and proven expertise in application-specific requirements to provide high-performance, state-of-the-art computing resources for use in harsh airborne, ground-based and shipboard environments.

The full turn-key computer system consists of electronics housed in two form factors: 19" rack mounted equipment based on the ATCA architecture; and, operator duel display consoles. The 19" rack mount equipments supply the system's high end computing processing as well as all the required interfaces for all aircraft sensors. Included in these chassis is the aircraft LAN network which also provides communication to the five operator consoles. The consoles provide dual 24" high resolution displays with touch overlay, associated keyboard and mouse entry devices and all the associated local processing to allow the operator to conduct his mission.

BAE Systems has completed the Critical Design Review (CDR) and is in the process of delivering Software Development Lab (SDL) equipments. The Qualification program is scheduled to begin mid year and Flyable Production equipments are being fabricated for delivery.

BAE Systems has been providing military computer and display systems for more than 30 years.
